OSI Video Showcases Youth-Made Media

Date:
May 5, 2005

Produced by OSI's Youth Initiatives, Youth Made Media: I Make Media Because… offers a glimpse of the range of media produced by youth across the country. This video compilation features clips of youth-made radio, film, and other media, as well as interviews with young people on the impact their involvement in youth media has had on their lives.

Since 1999, OSI’s Youth Media Program has made more than 200 grants to support nonprofit organizations working with low-income youth to produce journalism-based media. Through the process of media production, youth with the greatest need develop sophisticated analytic, communication, and technical skills, and can make positive changes in their communities. Distributed locally and nationally, youth-generated radio, videos, ‘zines, websites, and newspapers introduce local communities and the general public to young people’s concerns and perspectives on important social issues.
