Dee Davis and the Center for Rural Strategies developed a media campaign to bring national attention to the struggles of rural Gulf Coast residents to re-establish their lives and their communities after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The project aimed to help Americans understand conditions along the rural Gulf Coast and explore how America's failure to formulate effective rural policy is reaping disaster in the recovery areas.

The resulting videos and photographs illustrated the inadequate governmental response that has created a human-made disaster on top of the natural one. The material is being integrated with a campaign to illustrate policy alternatives that could help build healthier regions incorporating both rural and urban communities.
