The Open Society Foundation for South Africa promotes open society values by supporting institutions and civil society organizations that work in the areas of criminal justice, media, governance, human rights, and democracy building.

The Open Society Foundation–London houses a number of global OSI initiatives, including the East East: Partnership Beyond Borders, Media Program, Information Program, Early Childhood Program, At Home in Europe, Mental Health Initiative, and the Equality and Citizenship Program.

The Open Society Initiative for East Africa focuses on four key areas of activity: governance and accountability, justice and human rights, media and access to information, civic engagement, and public health.

The Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa focuses its work on promoting the rule of law, democracy building, human rights, economic development, education, public health, independent media, and access to information.

Open Society Initiative for West Africa promotes the ideals of an open society where functioning democracy, good governance, the rule of law, basic freedoms, and citizens' empowerment prevail.
