OSI Nominated for 12th Annual Webby Awards

Date:
April 9, 2008

Two Open Society Institute web productions have been nominated for the 12th Annual Webby Awards, the Internet industry's highest honor. OSI was chosen from nearly 10,000 entries from across the United States and over 60 countries.

Eyes on Zimbabwe, a nominee in the Public Service and Activism category, provides an inside look into Mugabe's repressive police state and the local struggle to promote democracy and end human rights abuses. The website makes it easy to get involved and help ensure Zimbabwe’s recent election results are respected.

Katrina: An Unnatural Disaster, nominated in the Charitable Organizations / Nonprofit category, features the Katrina Media Fellows' investigative reporting on the Hurricane's continuing devastation across the Gulf Coast. The site combines never-before-seen video, photography, print, and radio with previously published work to spark a national discussion on race, poverty, and government neglect.

Both nominated websites are eligible for two awards in their categories: The Webby Award, selected by the Academy, and the Webby People’s Voice Award, selected by the public through online voting.

You can show your support for these critical issues by registering at http://peoplesvoice.webbyawards.com and voting for Katrina: An Unnatural Disaster (in the Society section of the Website category) and Eyes on Zimbabwe (in the Public Service and Activism section of the Online Film and Video category).
