OSI Wins Award for Public Policy Engagement

Date:
April 1, 2003

The Council on Foundations has named OSI one of the recipients of the 2003 Paul Ylvisaker Award for Public Policy Engagement for its work in drug policy, reproductive rights, welfare reform, criminal justice, and civil rights. The New York Community Trust and the Rosenberg Foundation also received the award.

The Ylvisaker Award celebrates grantmakers whose bold and creative efforts help formulate or implement informed public policy. "This year's winners have demonstrated courage, passion and vision in their public policy–related activities," said Dorothy S. Ridings, president and CEO of the Council on Foundations. "Each winner highlights the diverse ways foundations may engage in public policy and the belief that philanthropy has the capacity to influence public policy for the common good."

The award is named for the late Paul Ylvisaker, who served as a senior advisor to the Council on Foundations and as a trustee of several private and community foundations. He spoke and wrote extensively on the potential of private philanthropy and a range of other issues including urban affairs, civil rights, community engagement, and the environment.
