Former OSI Grantee Named One of 50 Most Powerful Women in New York

Date:
May 13, 2007

Majora Carter, a former OSI fellow, has been named to the New York Post's list of 50 most powerful women in New York. The list states: "45. Majora Carter, 40, founder, Sustainable South Bronx. This lifelong resident of the South Bronx and MacArthur genius-grant winner raised more than $30 million in public and private funds to build a greenway on the Bronx River waterfront. Next up? Facing off with Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff over a proposed prison on her home turf."

Carter is director of Sustainable South Bronx (SSB), which she founded in 2001 with a NYC Community Fellowship from OSI. SSB addresses environmental and health issues for residents of the South Bronx by helping create new opportunities for transportation, fitness and recreation, nutrition, and economic development.

For the complete list, see the March 13 Post article, "New York's 50 Most Powerful Women."
