OSI grantees YO! Youth Outlook and NYC/New Youth Connections presented an all-day program, Media by Young America, at the First National EXPO of Ethnic Media.
More than 30 youth media organizations from across the country presented their work. Activities and workshops for young people and youth media practitioners included live performance, professional development discussions, networking opportunities, and a multimedia and film festival featuring short films by up-and-coming young producers.
Media by Young America was part of the larger ethnic-media EXPO hosted by New California Media (NCM) and the Independent Press Association–New York. The EXPO aimed to bring ethnic media, an increasingly influential segment of American journalism, to the attention of key decisionmakers in government, mainstream media, business, and the nonprofit sector. The event was designed to showcase how young people, America’s most diverse population, are developing new multimedia platforms to create visibility for the next generation. More than fifteen hundred attendees networked and exchanged ideas on building inclusive communications through ethnic and youth media.
