Guidelines

The Open Society Institute International Women's Program (IWP) supports a limited number of small grants that support members of women's rights-related organization in countries where OSI operates to attend relevant international conferences and events.

Preference will be given to organizations from the IWP's countries of focus, past or current grantees, those who do not have access to other funding sources, and/or those who are a part of larger networks or coalitions.

The amount of the grant will depend on the specific event, and can include reasonable costs related to airfare, accommodation, conference registration, and per diem. Note that the amount granted may be less than the amount requested if and when an award is made.

To Submit an Inquiry

Proposal submissions under this focus area are by invitation only. To submit an inquiry of no more than 600 words for a potential application to be considered, please email the following information:

  • Name of organization and contact information (contact person, title, mailing address, street address, tel/fax, email, website)
  • Country (or countries) of benefit
  • Brief description of organization
  • Brief description of the event
  • Brief description of how attending the event will benefit the work of the organization
  • Brief description of any follow-up plans post-event
  • Total amount requested and any other funding sources

Email inquiries to women@sorosny.org. Subject line should state: "Funding inquiry: NAME OF ORG, COUNTRY OF BENEFIT" (Example: "Funding inquiry: Center for Women's Rights, Cambodia").

Inquiries will be accepted on a rolling basis. Uninvited proposals will not be considered.

Note that grants cannot be given to individuals, only organizations.

Queries for travel and event grants must be received no later than 10 weeks before the beginning of the event. To submit an application, send by email to: women@sorosny.org.
