December 26, 2006

Conflict between Somali Islamists and interim government forces has escalated in recent days. The PBS NewsHour with Jim Lehrer interviewed Akwe Amosu, senior policy analyst for Africa at OSI-Washington, D.C., and Abdi Samatar, professor of geography at the University of Minnesota, about the reasons for the violence and the possibility of it enveloping the Horn of Africa region.

Video and a transcript of the segment are available on the PBS website at www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/africa/july-dec06/somalia_12-26.html.
