OSI Project Helps Launch Public Education Effort to Increase Debate on U.S. Foreign Policy
OSI-Washington, D.C.'s Cooperative Global Engagement Project, in collaboration with the United Nations Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, is presenting "The People Speak: America Debates Its Role in the World," a public education effort to stimulate a national dialogue about the future of U.S. foreign policy. The effort is grounded in the belief that discussions of these important issues are too often left to the policy elite. This is a debate that should go on in our schools and our churches, in the social conversations of friends and neighbors. In short, this debate needs the participation of an informed citizenry.
The campaign's goal is to engage as many Americans as possible in debates across the United States between October 5 and October 23, 2003. These debates come at a critical time in our history as the outlines of a new U.S. approach to promoting national and global security are emerging on the groundin Iraqand in the statements of senior government officials.
