Moving Walls Exhibit Comes to Open Society Institute in Washington
Beginning this Thursday, February 27, 2003, the Open Society Institute's Washington office will display a photographic exhibit entitled Moving Walls, part of a series of exhibits originating at Open Society Institute's New York office. The series represents the transitional condition of open societies and the promotion and maintenance of democratic values. Nations often erect obstacles and barriers such as political oppression, economic instability, and racism. Yet, even as these walls are built, there are people committed to tearing them down. As the name of the exhibition series implies, Moving Walls is an artistic interpretation of this struggle.
This exhibition, the first in OSI's Washington office, features the work of seven documentary photographers and portrays communities from Queens, New York, to Guinea Bissau, West Africa, where people are struggling between tradition and modernity.
The public may view the exhibit MWF from 12-3 p.m. at: 1120 Nineteenth St., NW. Washington, DC.
