Earth Conservation Corps
2007 Earth Conservation Corps (ECC) is a nonprofit youth development and environmental service organization founded in 1989 in Southeast DC. It seeks to empower disadvantaged, unemployed, and court-involved youth (ages 17-25) to reclaim the Anacostia River, their communities, and their lives by providing them with job readiness tools, environmental restoration and conservation training, life skills and leadership development. Corps members spend four days per week participating in at least one of ECC's three main service projects: The Anacostia Riverkeeper, Environmental Leadership, and Youth Media Arts projects. By combining service-learning and job skills preparation, ECC prepares youth for higher education and for careers in low environmental impact landscape design, construction, trail building and wetlands restoration, urban forestry, and film production and editing. In 2007 the DC Community Grants Initiative awarded ECC with a general support grant. 1 Year | www.ecc1.org |
