A Briefing on Escalating Media Repression in Zimbabwe

Location: Washington, D.C.
Event Date: March 3, 2006
Speaker: Isabella Matambandadzo

The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars' Africa Program and Project on Leadership and Building State Capacity sponsored a briefing on recent developments affecting independent journalists in Zimbabwe. The briefing featured Isabella Matambandadzo, program manager for the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa and a trustee of the Voice of the People, which is one of Zimbabwe's few remaining independent radio stations. She discussed sharply escalating government repression and intimidation against private media outlets.

A video of the conference is available for viewing on the Wilson Center website at www.wilsoncenter.org/index.cfm.

While in Washington, Matambandadzo also discussed the situation on National Public Radio's Morning Edition. Audio is available at www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5248988.
