Turkey and the War in Iraq

Location: OSI-Washington, D.C.
Event Date: May 8, 2003

In the run up to the Iraq conflict in 2003, Turkey balked at serving as a staging point for U.S. troops seeking to enter Iraq, angering some in the Bush administration. Now that the war is over, what is the fallout in U.S.-Turkish relations? What challenges does a liberated Iraq present to its northern neighbor? What are the prospects for Turkish membership in the European Union? Dr. Sahin Alpay, a journalist and lecturer from Bahcesehir University, Istanbul, discussed his views at an open forum at OSI-Washington, D.C.

This event was jointly sponsored by OSI- Washington, D.C. and OSI’s Central Eurasia Project.
