OSI's Washington office is holding a discussion on truth commissions to mark the Washington opening of Moving Walls 8, a documentary photo exhibit, which will be open to the public at OSI-Washington, D.C. from June 28 - November 15, 2004. The discussion will be held at the National Council of La Raza, 1111 Nineteenth Street, NW Suite 1000, Washington, D.C. 20036.

The discussion will focus on efforts to encourage accountability and reconciliation in conflict-torn societies, specifically focusing on Peru’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and international and U.S. efforts to encourage transitions from dictatorship and conflict. Among other things, featured speakers will discuss proposed legislation to support truth commissions, and will examine the question of whether the search for accountability can interfere with efforts to achieve negotiated settlements.
