The Shadow World: Inside the Global Arms Trade (Washington, D.C., Event)

Location: OSI-Washington, D.C.
Event Date: November 9, 2011
Speakers: Lora Lumpe, Andrew Feinstein, Franklin (Chuck) Spinney

The Open Society Foundations host a Washington, D.C., launch of The Shadow World: Inside the Global Arms Trade with author Andrew Feinstein.

The book provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the global arms trade, revealing the deadly collusion and corruption that all too often exists among senior politicians, weapons manufacturers, felonious arms dealers, and the military. This is a situation that compromises security and democracy in both the selling and receiving countries.  Anecdotes from Albania to Saudi Arabia bring the shadow world of arms dealing to light.

Author Andrew Feinstein will discuss the book followed by commentary by Franklin C. "Chuck" Spinney, former Air Force officer, Pentagon analyst, and outspoken opponent of waste and fraud in U.S. military spending.

Copies of The Shadow World will be available for purchase at the event.

Speakers

  • Andrew Feinstein, author, The Shadow World: Inside the Global Arms Trade, and former Open Society Fellow
  • Franklin C. "Chuck" Spinney, former Air Force officer and Pentagon analyst
  • Lora Lumpe, senior policy analyst, Open Society Foundations (moderator)
