Investigative Journalism in Colombia

Juanita Leon

Juanita León is a Colombian journalist and editor. A 2007 Harvard Neiman Fellow, she most recently led the launch of the online American magazine Flypmedia.

Previously she headed up the online edition of one of Colombia’s largest weeklies, Semana, where she oversaw investigative reporting that helped uncover ties between paramilitaries and more than fifty members of President Uribe’s coalition. She has also taught classes on multimedia and investigative journalism at New York University and at the University of Los Andes in Bogotá.

León is launching an investigative news blog in Colombia called La Silla Vacía. The site features original investigative pieces, multimedia content, opinion and commentary, and also hosts debates. It also combines professional reporting and reader-generated content.

The site will focus on national politics, the demobilization of the paramilitaries, peace talks with the FARC, and Colombia’s relationship with the region and the world.
