The Open Society Institute sponsored a national summit to address interdisciplinary approaches to incarceration prevention. The first meeting of its kind, Behind the Cycle: A National Summit to Advance an Integrative Approach to Justice Reform brought together 300 participants from various disciplines to address collaborative ways to strengthen communities, impact policy decisions, and stop the cycle of incarceration.
One of the roundtable discussions, “Connecting the Dots: Race, Poverty, and Social Issues Fueling the Cycle of Incarceration,” was moderated by Harvard Law professor Charles Ogletree and featured 14 experts. Through a mock scenario, the panelists addressed social and economic factors plaguing at-risk youth.
