The Washington Office of the Open Society Institute encourages U.S. policies that support vibrant and tolerant democracies abroad and a more just and accountable government in the United States. OSI-DC works to promote strong human rights policies, better access to public health services, including programs that address the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, and greater governmental transparency and accountability. The office supports fair and responsible criminal justice and immigration policies in the United States and an effective approach to terrorism that respects civil liberties and is based on the rule of law.
The Open Society Policy Center, a nonpartisan and nonprofit 501(c)(4) organization that engages in advocacy aimed at influencing U.S. government policy on domestic and international issues, is also housed at the Washington, D.C., office.
