About

The Strategic Opportunities Fund provides rapid flexible funding to respond to new opportunities and urgent situations and also supports grant strategy research and development.

Rapid Response Grantmaking

The Strategic Opportunities Fund allocates funds on an annual basis to ensure OSI's ability to respond to unanticipated opportunities that have fundamental connections to OSI's core mission. Recent examples include support for equitable rebuilding efforts in the Gulf Region and Katrina Media Fellowships to ensure in-depth press coverage, timely support for advocates to build a case for comprehensive immigration reform, and grantmaking to address the inequities caused by the subprime lending implosion.

Research and Development

The Strategic Opportunities Fund also functions as the research and development arm for U.S. Programs. It explores select areas which OSI determines are ripe for new ideas and approaches and which are not already part of our core programs.
