Renay Frankel
2009 Committee for Public Counsel Services Individuals with criminal records often face significant barriers to accessing some of life's basic necessities. A lack of coordination among attorneys can result in a person pleading guilty to a criminal charge without understanding that a conviction can significantly hamper their ability to find a job, secure housing, or pursue an education. Renay Frankel will create an innovative partnership between criminal and civil legal services in Massachusetts to ensure more effective legal representation for low-income defendants. Frankel was previously an attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services, where she defended public and subsidized housing tenants in eviction proceedings. Before that, she worked as a public defender for the Committee for Public Counsel Services, representing defendants in criminal cases in Boston. She received her BA from Skidmore College and JD from Northeastern University School of Law. During law school, Frankel interned at the San Francisco Public Defender's Office, New York Civil Liberties Union, and Youth Advocacy Project. She also served as a student attorney and teaching assistant for the Prisoners' Rights Clinic. Boston, MA | |
