Grantees
David Feige
2004

David Feige, a writer and long-time public defender, will bring the voices of indigent criminal defendants and public defenders to the mainstream press. Through magazine articles, radio commentaries and a book, Mr. Feige will reveal the everyday injustices that pervade the criminal justice system, and expose the debilitating effects of assembly line justice on the indigent clients he represents and the communities they live in. By doing so, Mr. Feige hopes to provide a more sophisticated understanding of an almost inconceivably barbaric system and the effects it has on the people it processes--complex interesting people tragically caught up in a system whose currency is cynicism.
