Human Rights Abuse in Guantanamo Bay

On February 22, 2004, the British newspaper The Observer published an opinion piece ("The Abuse Goes On") by Clive Stafford-Smith, a Soros Justice Fellow and a lawyer for two recently freed Guantanamo detainees, attacking the continuing violation of human rights on the base by the U.S. government.

The two men he represented came home after two years there, but, according to Stafford-Smith, " In effect, the 680 foreigners held there...have no enforceable human rights," he wrote.
