Cutting Correctly: New Prison Policies for Times of Fiscal Crisis

Source:
Justice Policy Institute

Cutting Correctly looks at the ballooning state expenditures and shrinking revenues that states face and call into question their prison spending. The authors take a detailed look at five policy areas, each designed to save states money in these times of fiscal belt-tightening:

• Returning discretion to judges and reducing nonviolent prioner populations.

• Drug policy reform.

• Comprehensive sentencing reform.

• Parole reform.

• Policy reforms under consideration around the country.
