Funding to the Citizens Planning and Housing Association of Baltimore will provide project support for the Baltimore Regional Housing Equity Coalition’s work in the post-remedy phase of the landmark Thompson v. HUD housing desegregation case.

Since 1941 the Citizens Planning and Housing Association (CPHA) has been working to improve the quality of life for Baltimore through grassroots mobilization and advocacy, from the neighborhood to the regional level. CPHA has been a frontline organizer in the Baltimore metropolitan region and has tackled complex social issues including transportation policy, housing and development, and drug policy. CPHA is the coordinating organization and fiscal agent for the Baltimore Regional Housing Equity Coalition (the Coalition) involved in the Thompson v. HUD case and advocacy efforts that stem from the case. In July 2006, U.S. District Court Judge Marvin J. Garbis heard final arguments for the remedy phase and is expected to make a final decision by early 2007. CPHA has headed a broad coalition involved in litigation strategies; reframe the debate and conducting grassroots organizing and support in the Baltimore region.
