The Applied Research Center is a public policy institute advancing racial justice through research, advocacy and journalism. Through its research, ARC supports numerous racial justice campaigns in California and across the country. Recently, ARC has produced several high-profile and effective reports, including: Falling Through the Cracks: How California’s Welfare Policy Keeps Families Poor, and Closing the Gap: Solutions to Race-Based Health Disparities. ARC's Race and Public Policy (RAPP) program addresses racial inequities perpetuated by a range of institutions by refocusing public debate and policy making on equitable outcomes, especially at the state level.

ARC develops creative, equitable policies that challenge "colorblind" policy-making and recommend proactive, race conscious alternatives. ARC continues its longstanding work conducting workshops across the country to develop racial justice leadership at the grassroots level. Their national conferences attract large audiences and are seen as critical spaces for researchers, advocates and grassroots organizations to interact and share their knowledge and experiences. ARC also produces its award-winning ColorLines magazine that serves as a vehicle for its overall work as well as a home for its strong journalism.
