About

The Equality and Opportunity Fund includes grantmaking and other initiatives to

  • ensure justice and equality;
  • prohibit arbitrary and discriminatory government action;
  • lift barriers that prevent people from participating fully in economic, social, and political life.

The fund provides ongoing support for immigrant rights; racial justice; women’s rights; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights.

The fund also houses two special projects within U.S. Programs: the Campaign for Black Male Achievement and the Neighborhood Stabilization Initiative.

By bringing these issues together under one umbrella, the Equality and Opportunity Fund has the flexibility to provide more support for partnerships that transcend communities, identities, and issues. While the fund recognizes that experiences differ substantially among individuals and across communities, it supports efforts that respect difference while focusing on the shared values that bind individuals and communities together.

In seeking to challenge inequality and expand opportunity, the fund focuses on structural problems and places high priority on advocacy that cuts across multiple issue areas, identities, and constituencies.
