Grantees
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc.
2008

With OSI support, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation will educate relevant groups on the findings of its recently released report, Breaking Barriers: Plotting the Path to Academic Success for School-aged African American Males, which identifies factors that statistically improve educational outcomes for African American males by analyzing academic success indicators from four national surveys.

The foundation will host regular focus groups of stakeholders to solicit input on the findings of the Breaking Barriers report; modify and publish Breaking Barriers as shorter policy reports and articles, including in the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation newsletter, its website and the Journal of Negro Education; hold district-level policy forums to highlight the findings in five school districts:  Chicago, IL; Clayton County, GA; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; and Washington, DC.; provide "train the trainer" advocacy sessions at district-level policy forums so that forum participants can engage in post-forum dialogues and information exchanges; and produce fact sheets, issue briefs, advocacy toolkits, and other resources to supplement the district-level forums and training sessions.
