This survey found that active voters across the State of Maryland strongly support increased access to alcohol and drug treatment for those who need it, whether through private insurance coverage or through public funding. A solid two-thirds of voters believe alcohol and drug treatment is effective, see treatment as a better policy option than prison, and support expanded access to treatment.

Key points from the poll include:

  • 72% of those who have known someone with an addiction problem view alcohol and drug treatment as effective.
  • Two thirds (67%) of Maryland general election voters reported personally knowing someone with an addiction.
  • 63% of Maryland voters supported increased public funding/government help (taxes, private insurance coverage, etc.) to aid addiction treatment.
