Updating Estimates of the Economic Costs of Alcohol Abuse in the United States: Estimates, Update Methods, and Data Report

Date:
2000
Source:
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism

This report presents updated/projected estimates of the economic costs of alcohol use using the same general approach that has been employed for this purpose in prior efforts (e.g., Harwood et al., 1998; Rice et al., 1990). This update strategy is necessary to maintain reasonably up-to-date cost estimates because of the effects of various trends in our society and the economy, which, while relatively gradual over a year or two, may have a material impact over several years.
