2007 Democracy and Reforms: Good/Bad Governance Watch The project encompasses a comprehensive audit of democratic governance in Slovakia. The grantee will provide a systematic monitoring, research and analysis of five basic areas: democratic institutions and rule of law; national legislation; protection of human and minority rights; independent and public media; and policies of European and transatlantic integration. Accumulated findings, discussed broadly in public debate, can serve as a valuable restraining force against dangerous upsurge of populist elements of ethnic nationalism, illiberal tendencies and etatism in policy-making. This project will also eliminate the current gap in monitoring national legislation in Slovakia. The Institute for Public Affairs (IVO) is an independent public policy think-tank.
