Overcoming Patterns of Ethnic Exclusion in Estonia
2007-2009

IISS, within this project, monitors the implementation of the newly adopted State Strategy for Inclusion of Ethnic Minorities. The Institute will report on any deficiencies and suggest policy improvements and alternatives. The integration of minorities is the most burning issues in contemporary Estonian society. Last year’s riots in downtown Tallinn served as a wake up call to the Government who is now willing to implement a more comprehensive integration policy beyond language courses for non-nationals.

It performs basic research and applied studies on relevant issues to the Estonian society and participates in training of the specialists of the field, including on the issue of minority integration and social development.

The priority in the activities of IISS is to carry out the research work on the international level that can be shown in publications and presentations in the conferences of research field by the researchers of the institute.

Besides the research work, teaching activities, supervision of the master and doctoral theses, being opponents in universities in Estonia and abroad, and participation in debates on topical problems in society, is also of special importance for the institute.
