Eötvös Károly Public Policy Institute
2006 Party Finance in Hungary: Research and Recommendations Hungary, surprisingly for many observers, entered EU without reformed regulations for financing of political parties. It currently operates with very old fashioned system of checks and balances that allow political parties to circumvent accountability of their fundraising and spending. By undertaking a thorough analysis of the last parliamentary and local elections, this project ultimately aims to galvanize a public debate leading to a new law on political party financing. EKI is a nonprofit public policy institute founded in 2003 with a focus on freedom of information, transparency, privacy protection, campaign finance, judicial independence and accountability, and other related areas. EKI's activities in these areas include consultancy work intended for use by decision-makers and policy analysts as well as advocacy intended for the general public.
