Center for the Study of Imperfections of Democracy
2008

The Quality of Old and New Democracies

The organizers will bring the world's renowned scholars and some European policy experts to initiate a dialogue about the quality of democracy through comparison of older democracies with the recently emerged democracies in Central and Eastern Europe and other regions of the world. The organizers would follow-up this conference with several specific papers derived from the discussions held at different panels throughout the conference. The suggested conference is designed as a part of a longer two year process that envisages another specialized conference on CEE and the Balkans organized together with Freedom House in late 2008 and a Democracy Forum in 2009.
