The Government Accessibility Project
2007-2009

This project is a direct policy response to the existing and increasing divide between government and society, caused by inaccessibility of government and increased popular distrust in governmental institutions. The policy outcomes of the project aim to increase accessibility of governmental institutions and strengthen the dialogue between society and the government at national and local levels. The project design includes monitoring of government transparency and accountability, drafting guidelines for systematic improvements and influencing a clearly selected target group of opinion makers in the country. The project will present analysis of the risks and shortcomings of not having a unified system for presenting the government spending publicly.

The Civil Society Institute is a centre for the analysis of public policy, for the dissemination of information relevant to public policy issues, and for the implementation of educational projects.

Main goals of the Civil Society Institute are:

  • strengthening civil society in Lithuania, actively contributing to the implementation and reinforcement of democratic and civic values;
  • providing Lithuanian society with objective and reliable information regarding issues in public policy;
  • affirming and defending the idea and principles of civil society in the political and public life;
  • encouraging citizens' active and conscious participation in public activity, as well as the exercise of their civic liberties and rights.
