Pro Democracy Association (APD) is a nationwide advocacy organization aiming to strengthen democracy in Romania by stimulating citizen participation in the public decision making process. The organization, in addition to its professional staff, has a great number of volunteers and 30 branches spread throughout Romania.

APD's main areas of focus are:

  • assuring the correctness of the election process
  • strengthening the relation between citizens and their elected representatives
  • facilitating citizens' participation in the process of elaboration of public policies
  • increasing the transparency of the public institutions and the control of civic society over them
  • protecting human rights

APD's methodology is based not only on activities that are specific to a civic organization such as voter education, civic education, election monitoring, organizing debates and public meetings, advocating, etc., but also on activities such as documentation, analysis and research on the areas of interest. APD, through its work, has addressed legitimacy of elected officials, improving the election system, fought against the corruption generated by the non-transparent and badly regulated political party financing, improved the implementation of Law of the Free Access to the Public Information and the Law Regarding the Transparency of the Public Institutions' Activity
