Core and Institutional Support to Policy Research Centers

The Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) aims to contribute to the growth of an independent thinking environment in Moldova. As a public policy institute, IDIS is delivering various kinds of expertise on the targeted fields of activity: governance, civic society development, economy, knowledge and innovation, fiscal decentralization, etc. IDIS combines policy-focused research with regular training and public awareness activities/campaigns. The area of professional interest is broad, but the organization is focused on specific problems and remedies, which serve usually as a starting point for broad and inclusive public policy initiatives.

IDIS conducts public discussions on democratic governance and civil society development. These discussions attract key figures in civil society, academia, media, politicians and other people who have a serious impact on the public opinion. IDIS works on early warning and early response systems, launches policy initiatives and promotes effective solutions with key decision-makers in Moldova and abroad. In the field of fiscal decentralization and local governance, IDIS elaborated several policy initiatives, concept papers and regulatory drafts increasing the demand for a substantive reform of the local governments in Moldova. This included lobbying initiatives, as well as technical assistance provided to the professional associations of local governments in Moldova.

IDIS hosts a specialized body for economic policy analysis unit that undertakes most of the fiscal, economic and macro-economic public policy initiatives at the institute. IDIS experts are well-known for their professional expertise in the areas of: municipal finance, macroeconomic policy, agricultural, banking, households, trade-policy assessments. They have continuously been working with OECD on baseline surveys and regulatory framework assessment on SMEs, and state policies on small business. IDIS experts are well-known by mass media for their policy comments, and instant reactions to the most-sensitive topics of economic developments.
