2006

The European Institute (EI) is an independent policy centre, founded in April 1999. Its mission is to serve as a network of expertise to the policy community in South East Europe on EU accession by providing research, policy advice, information activities and network building. Since its creation the Institute has become one of the leading Bulgarian policy centers dealing with EU enlargement.

The Institute has commendable in-house expertise of practitioners who have negotiated Bulgaria's EU membership and boast an extensive knowledge of the accession process. EI's work is focused on regional development policy, justice and home affairs incl. migration, anti-discrimination, European energy policy, agriculture, competition policy, intellectual property rights, etc. EI has access to a wealth of experts in Central and South East Europe.

The Institute's expertise is widely recognized both by the non-governmental and governmental community in Bulgaria and—increasingly—in South East Europe, Turkey and the Ukraine. EI aims at developing its role as facilitator of information, analysis and experience on European prospective for the Western Balkans and EU Neighborhood policy Countries.
