Call for Applications: University of Essex Scholarships in Human Rights

The Open Society Institute and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office offer scholarships that enable students from select Central Eurasian and Islamic countries to pursue postgraduate programs at the University of Essex Human Rights Centre.

The two programs offered are the MA in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights and the LLM in International Human Rights Law. Each award will provide for payment of academic tuition fees, examination fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses sufficient for a single student, and other agreed allowances including one return economy airfare.

Eligibility

The scholarships are open to applicants from Indonesia, Jordan, and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (Palestinians normally resident in the West Bank or Gaza Strip, including East Jerusalem, as well as Arab citizens of Israel are eligible to apply).

Deadlines

Please note: the deadline has been extended to February 16, 2009, only for Palestinian applicants normally resident in the Gaza Strip.

The deadline for all other scholarship applications for the 2009-10 academic year has passed. Please check back again in fall 2009 for a new call for applications for the 2010-11 academic year.
