UK Scholarship Programs
Application Guidelines | Selected Grantees
The Open Society Foundations support one-year master's scholarships in the social sciences and humanities, as well as PhD studies, at various graduate institutions in the United Kingdom. The program is available for students and scholars from select non-EU countries in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, Mongolia, and the former Soviet Union.
Fields of study include:
- social anthropology
- conflict resolution
- economics
- education
- democracy studies
- gender studies
- human rights
- international relations
Master's-Level Scholarships
Cofunding for master's-level study is provided by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, Cambridge Overseas Trust, University of Essex, University of Edinburgh, University of Oxford, University of St. Andrews, Staffordshire University, University of York, and the University of Warwick.
An additional 10 short-term (mainly one-month) research awards are available in all fields at Cambridge University for qualified faculty from specific countries in the region.
PhD-Level Scholarships
In conjunction with Staffordshire University, the Scholarship Programs also offer PhD-level support for scholars from the Balkans eligible for an MPhil/Economics.
In addition, the Open Society Foundations / University of Durham PhD awards offer PhD opportunities for Afghan women to obtain postgraduate awards in the UK before returning to a teaching position at Kabul University.
