Every year, OSI’s Scholarship Programs organize a conference to bring together all current OSI/Chevening grantees in Britain. The 2007 mid-year students’ conference was held April 2–5 in Durham, England. Over the course of the conference, participants had the opportunity to present and discuss academic papers, participate in debate sessions, learn about professional development opportunities, and expand their networks of personal and professional contacts with colleagues from throughout Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, as well as from the Middle East, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Lebanon, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Turkey.
The conference also held a photography competition. The winning entries are featured below.
Where’s my Essex Mom?
It was the hardest decision of my life to decide to leave my family for one year. However, this was a chance I could not miss. My scholarship is the best investment in my future and the future of my children that I could ever expect from the people who know me so little but who believe in me.

Burning Hearts
Celebration of a thousand years of Oxfordshire. The celebration was of a medieval Gothic style, reminding me of the time of Inquisition: beautiful, intriguing and a little petrifying.
