Asian Centre for Human Rights
2009

The Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) will file a series of information requests under India's Right to Information law to collect data on pretrial detainees throughout the country in order to file a public interest lawsuit in the Supreme Court of India.  Through litigation, ACHR seeks the enforcement of the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 2005 which requires the release of pre-trial detainees who have already served half of the sentence they would have received if convicted for their alleged offense.
