American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative—Africa Divison
2009

The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative–Africa Division will work with the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission and Prison Fellowship to provide legal representation to indigent criminal defendants in Liberia with the aim of reducing the pre-trial detention population.

By building local organizations’ capacity, the American Bar Association seeks to establish civil society actors committed to promoting the rights of indigent criminal defendants and provide a model of legal defense for a national legal aid system.
