Book and Exhibit Feature Moving Walls Photographer's Work on Diamond Industry

Date:
November 16, 2007

Kadir van Lohuizen’s Diamond Matters takes a broad view of the diamond industry, following the stones from Congolese mines to the hands and necks of affluent Western women who know little about their origin. As they make their way across continents, a story unfolds of exploitation, massive profits, and the complexities of global capitalism.

Umbrage Editions is publishing a 240-page hardcover book of the work, with interviews from the industry, from those digging it from hillsides with bare hands and picks, to dealers and wearers of gems.

Diamond Matters, previously shown as part of the Open Society Institute Moving Walls 12 exhibit, is on view from October 30–December 4, 2007, at Umbrage Gallery.
