OSI Grantee's Book Documents Exploitation and Poverty in the Niger Delta

Date:
August 22, 2008

Political gangsterism, corruption, and poverty seem to converge in the Delta region of Nigeria—the sixth largest producer of oil in the world. Photographer and OSI grantee Ed Kashi battled extreme conditions to tell the story of half a century of oil exploration and production and its devastating consequences in the Niger Delta.

A collection of Kashi’s photographs are being published in Curse of the Black Gold: 50 Years of Oil in the Niger Delta, from powerHouse books.
