Winners of 2004 Central Asia and Caucasus Grant Announced
The FiftyCrows International Fund for Documentary Photography, supported by OSI's Documentary Photography Project, has announced the winners of the 2004 Central Asia and Caucasus Grant:
- Rena Efffendi (Azerbaijan), "Mahalla: Faces of Change"
- Gia Chkhatarashvili (Georgia), "Ushguli: Village at a Crossroad"
- Stephanie Sinclair (USA), "Self-Immolation: Afghan Women Cry Out for Help"
- James Reeve (UK), "Banned–Afghanistan"
Recipients were selected by a panel of three judges: Alison D. Nordström, curator of photographs at George Eastman House; Ed Kashi, photographer/educator; and Anthony Richter, associate director of the Open Society Institute and director of OSI's Central Eurasia Project. Two winners were chosen from within the region, and two from outside the region. The judges reviewed 93 documentary essays on Central Asia from photographers representing 29 countries.
