Amal Khalaf and Loredana Mantello: Biographies
Amal Khalaf
After graduating from the University of Leeds, UK with a BA in Broadcasting and documentary filmmaking, Khalaf became interested in still photography as a medium to tell stories. Khalaf often collaborates with other photographers or with NGOs, and her documentary projects—on topics such as the Bedouins in the Sinai, families of Guantanamo Bay detainees and the lives of farm workers in the Middle East—have taken her to places far from her native country Bahrain.
Loredana Mantello
Born in Italy and based in Bahrain, Mantello is a freelance photographer whose work has been exhibited and published nationally and internationally. Her main focus is documentary and reportage photography. She is presently working on several projects based on the culture, heritage and people of the Middle East. Many of her projects have captured the attention of the public, including an essay on the domestic worker issue in the Gulf and a substantial reportage on Yemen.
