It's Our Money. Where's It Gone?

Date: September 29, 2009

This film documents the efforts of Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI) in Mombasa.  MUHURI is one of about 10 organizations that the Open Society Initiative for East Africa funds in Kenya to track public funds.  Watch ordinary community members as they are transformed into activists demanding accountability from their member of parliament.

OSIEA and the International Budget Partnership have supported social audit projects in Kenya that empower local communities to effectively monitor the use and management of public funds. Through training support to local civil society groups in the region, the two have increased community vigilance, transparency, and accountability in the management of devolved funds.
