Gladys Onyango

Program Assistant
OSIEA

Nairobi

Gladys Onyango serves as a program assistant with the Open Society Initiative for East Africa (OSIEA). Over the years she has written on political economy, trade justice, gender, HIV/AIDS and media & culture for a range of publications including African Agenda (a publication of Third World Network-Africa), The Accra Daily Mail and Expressions Today (an East African media review magazine).

Onyango joins OSIEA from Plan International, where she played a key role in laying groundwork for the organization’s move into advocacy work in Africa. She has a passion for African cinema, having spent a great deal of time in West Africa studying the historical, social, and political factors that have influenced the film industry and film culture in the region.

She holds a B.A. degree in Africana Studies with a concentration in Cinema & Media Studies from Wellesley College, Massachussets, USA.
