Soros Foundations

MENA works closely with the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation–Turkey, a liaison office that identifies actors and activities that will help Turkey's evolution toward an open society, facilitates collaboration between Turkish civil society and the Soros foundations network, and makes funding recommendations.

Iraq

OSI activity in Iraq focuses primarily on ensuring transparency of public accounts during the post-war period and encouraging a speedy transition to democracy.

OSI’s engagement in Iraq has so far consisted of research and advocacy on key open society issues. The most visible ongoing activity is Iraq Revenue Watch, which is dedicated to promoting transparency and accountability of public funds, particularly in the oil sector. In many parts of the world, the lack of proper stewardship over oil resources has resulted in corruption, the continued impoverishment of populations, and the abuse of political power. By prompting governments to tackle these problems early, OSI hopes to help Iraq avoid this plight.

Revenue Watch maintains its own separate website on its work in Iraq and the Caspian Basin. Further information, including press releases, publications, and relevant news items, can be obtained at www.revenuewatch.org.
